4 Weeks Out

We've been on "our own" now for a whole week--but not really. Church family shows up every other day with a meal; the phone rings daily with inquiries about how we're doing, sleeping, eating, etc. The doorbell sings with gifts from far off places.

Heidi wakes with a scowl and won't open her eyes until she is on the changing table. Then she looks at her flying deer and smiles as if remembering that life outside the womb isn't all bad. During the day she struggles to nap unless she is in close proximity to mama. So household jobs are done with the sling on or frantically fast so to be finished by the time Heidi notices mama is not nearby. We hates it when she cries. But really, her needs are simple as long as they get priority over everything else.

Husband comes home and picks her up and she is mesmirized by his voice. We take turns holding her while we eat. Husband shhes her to sleep. Precious days.
