The Evidence

I have been waiting all year to get Heidi this gorgeous fairy furniture for her little wooden fairy house. Only the best for my child, right?
She seemed to like it--and kind of played with it a little bit, but then resorted to the toys she really loves:

Such as an old potting basket filled with random bits of whatev: old cell phone, stretched out hobby lobby necklace, and some cut up pieces of a Highlights Magazine.
And my personal favorite: the broken off leg of a walmart doll high chair and one of mom's old make-up brushes. These she will not part with.

Another major source of entertainment: making a "nest" out of all the pillows on Mommy & Daddy's bed before dropping off. I'm pretty sure that's a luggage tag you see her sleeping with. And Heidi is sleeping in a dress because she refuses to wear anything else, including normal pajamas.

Choose your battles. Choose your battles.

I can already hear my mom laughing at this post, because I think she went through similar bewilderment with one of her children. I forget which.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying having the fairy house all to myself.

An Evening in the Parlor

For awhile husband and I went through a "sitting in the parlor" on Sundays phase, before we had children I believe. It was very Jane Austen, you know, with someone playing the piano, while two other people played cards, a third did needlework, and the drama was all whispered somewhere near the sideboard in between tea and more tea. For us it more about reading and napping...it all seems very long ago now.

Whenever I sit down to practice (which is never), this always happens. The nice thing now is that Heidi can identify classical music: "That's from Baby Deinstein!" I try to correct her, but to no avail. She will be sitting in her music appreciation class confusing Mozart with Einstein. Thank you, Disney.

Anyway, the whole point of this movie is that we finally got Elsa skipping on tape. This has been our favorite discovery of the month. You have to wait through the parlor scene, but the result is well worth it.
