Playlist for an Insomniac

Keep in mind that it's 4:17 a.m. and I have been up since oh, 2:20. I know this is old hat for all the veteran moms out there, but I am still not used to this. At least when the baby comes I'll have something to do with all this lost sleep.

So really, my blog readers, I don't ask too much of you. I don't make you take quizzes or come out of your lurking closets. But I am going to request one thing: I would like you to recommend good songs for a playlist I am going to make for sleepless nights. When I get 10 songs I will um, make the playlist.

Okay, I'm going to try for some more winks now.

I get insomnia, too. And I read that if you eat a banana right before bed, it will help...and so far, it has (as long as I don't drink any caffeine after 6:00!)
Sorry, I can't recommend any songs for the Insongnia Playlist, tho. Maybe Rainy Days and Mondays by the Carpenters? It's dreary and might put you to sleep...:)

here's a song that's sure to relax you to the point of putting you to sleep..."Aqueous Transmission" by my favorite band, Incubus. They're hard rockers (these are the guys you thought were Creed...for shame!), but this song is far from hard. The sounds of frogs and crickets at the end are especially soothing.

Thank you, both. You are now my two favorite blog readers.

Does anyone else read my blog anymore?

I really like Chris Rice's "The Living Room Sessions" -- that is to say, it's very nice, and it puts me to sleep :-)

As for specific songs, how about "(Last Night) I Couldn't Get to Sleep at All" by the 5th Dimension.

Can I be on your favorite person list?

Yes, Mike, you can.

Thank you for your song.

i love it that yr embracing it! my favorite thing to do is have my own "secret" me time...its like having a date with yrself. there is something special about sitting at the kitchen when the rest of the world is resting. dar williams calls it "calling the moon" in one of her songs. i recommend the music which sets yr womanly soul free. i highly recommend an album because it completely embraces yr soul,(since you have the time to kill). 2 albums that completely sway my soul are: shawn colvin's live in '88 and/or cover girl and carly simon (i'd you were my neighbor, i'd let you borrow my records of her---soo amazing!) time truly is magic. yr thoughts can take you anywhere. i also would let you borrow one of my three favorite lux time items (you may choose yr personal love that you are truly blessed by but don't always get to enjoy because of schedules and things like sleeping):

1. yoga
2. painting
3. poetry/fiction novel (if you have never read the red tent, it is a must, otherwise my new love is: Kabbalah by Rabbi Lawrence Kushner, altho i do think its nice to have it be a womanly time since most multimedia we consume is by male artists.

take the time as a gift to yr soul, feed it, nourish it, so you will be inspired so deeply your womb will feel its warmth. (even if it feels more like uncomfortable back aching pains, for te next few years you'll be aching for some "me" time)...so i hear.

I don't have any songs in particular, but I suggest you make a CD of hymns and lullabies that you want to sing to your baby. It's amazing how often I'll be singing to Joey and either can't think of a different song, or can't think of all the words to a song. Start practicing now. Then you'll also feel like you're getting something done with those hours when you can't sleep!

i've heard that eating a banana helps you sleep, and now i've read a witness. rock on. oatmeal can help you get sleepy, too. personally, too much sushi always gets me sleepy ... but, that's an expensive late-night habit to keep.

while i haven't listened to her in a few years, there's some lorena mckinnet (i can never spell her name) that's relaxing and quiet.

for me, though, i can't listen to music with words and fall alseep. i get too "busy" listening. (-_-)"
