What I'm Reading Part III

This one made me cry. Heidi couldn't sit through it, but I could.

So this book is described by the School Library Journal as "ultimately unsuccessful" with "characters and illustrations as stiff as the text," whose actions "bear no logic and reason," and a number of other unappetizing descriptions.

But for me it was "you had me at hello." There just aren't many books I've seen with a piano-playing protagonist, or depictions of a quiet, humble musician's life for children. The combo of mother-daughter dynamics, schoolyard politics, winter scenes, and small-town eccentricities gets me every time.

"Crescendo" was my favorite musical score "command." Maybe its a boy thing, or a trumpet thing, but I loved starting a piece softly, slowing building up...to cannon fire, as in the 1812th. the music announcing, as it were... "here we are people....back off.and quit your worry..the trumpets have arrived." Now I'm seeing God's grace in "crescendo" as I was watch each of you grow in Grace and Truth. Oh yes, the sea billows still roll, but His Grace, and the evidence of that Grace and redemptive power, continue to "crescendo."

Summer, you are growing into the beauty of your Mother.....I have always prayed that you would be much like her. My prayers are un-folding before my eyes.

Love, Miss Sherri

That's great! The review and I loved reading Dad/Gramps comment.

I pray that God would grant me grace to be able write on Abigail's crescendo someday!
