I have been grieving all year about the changes we are facing. I hope, hope, hope, I am wrong about my positions and fears. I hope for miracles and magic. But this is about saluting a truly magnanimous man and his gracious wife.Thank you, Mr. President, for keeping us safe and for those wonderful tax cuts. In 2010 we will remember why we voted for you when the tax cuts you gave us expire. Thank you for not falling in the face of criticism during the most dangerous time of our generation--for persevering through an ugly war to prevent the war from coming here again. Thank you for protecting the babies and for caring about Africa. You are the most compassionate President I ever saw in action.
Most of all, thank you for the profound example you have set of turning the other cheek. I hope the mob changes its tune during your lifetime and you receive a measure of the respect you deserve at the very least, as one of our former Presidents. But what has astounded me the most has been your gentle, patriotic, faithful response to the vile and venom that has been raining on you, ironically, since both your elections. You and Laura have taught me a lot about grace, and I am most thankful for that.

Your words are beautiful, and I agree with each one of them. I hope you send this to President Bush.
that was great. i clicked over to you from pinky's, and that was such an encouragement. of course, just seeing the picture brought tears to my eyes. they are such GOOD people and the media has just been horrible.
again, it's a sad, sad day for all the elephants...
Thanks for your kind words about the Bush family Mrs. J on this fateful and sad day. You may remember me as Hillary who wrote to you back on Easter after leaving Islam and journeying back to Jesus. My sister is a dear friend of Patrick and Jasmine. Your inspiring words and the words of your friends have lead me back to God. I just have to thank you.
Well-said, my friend. I hope someday people realize just what he did. And I hope they don't learn the hard way...for all of us. I respect him so much and watching today, I just had this crazy desire to go and have coffee with the man. I want to sit and eat a waffle with he and Laura and talk. I felt safe with him as president.
as usual, your writing has moved me! i agree with melissa, and i think you should send this to W!
Summer, I couldn't agree with you more. I was so sad all day yesterday. I kept searching for news on the Bush's. As you said, they have been so gracious and I would love to meet them one day and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with them. Laura was truly the most gracious First Lady of our time. I felt completely safe with "W" as President. I agree with Kelly; sent this letter to them. I had started one myself to send. Debbi
Hi, I clicked over from Edies Snow board post... You put to words what I was trying to express all day yesterday. Perfectly said!

great photo! I'm mixed on the Bush years, but what shocked me most was the disrespect given him throughout. And, I agree ~ his poise and ability to turn the other cheek is truly amazing. We will see what the Obama years hold. Can we do our best to honor the office and pray for the country and the decisions before us?
