We're Still Here

Here are a few images from this summer--the outdoor Zoo symphony, husband's newfound love of the bike commute, Heidi's daily time spent with bookshelves.

It's hard for me to write about ordinary things these days. Everything seems shadowy, like it's not really happening. I know he was far away. He never even met Una--but he was still here, a phone call away, always ready to chat, especially when he was driving somewhere.

I sing a lot--like I used to in middle school. I sing because my daughter wakes up cranky like her mama. I sing because my mom sang to me in the mornings to eradicate the frowning. I sing because one of my favorite roommates of all time, a lovely girl from Marseille, always sang when she cleaned the bathrooms at the Adventure Learning Center. Her voice echoed off the tiles and sounded throughout the tiny farm like an angel had come to roost. "It keeps me from being sad," Miriam would say. I imagine her now, somewhere in Africa singing with her puppets to the children there.

Yesterday I sang:

Way Beyond the Blue--
Do Lord, Remember Me
I've got a home in Gloryland that outshines the Sun.

Remember that? We have had a hard year. Gloryland feels closer all the time, and farther.

My posts usually have a pat answer at the end, but I'm all out of pat answers. Only faith is left.

I'm so sorry for the pain you are feeling. It must be suffocating at times. Praise the Lord you are resting in your faith.

When the walls cave in, when the floor shifts, when the ceiling collapses, He is there, and He is faithful.

If it be any comfort at all, for what it is worth, I am still hard at prayer for you.

Love, Miss Sherri

Let's dance while we are singing, too - "Do Lord oh do LORD oh do remember me!..."
