So there I was, in the typical ready position. Elbows, knees, and toes in a straight line. A shot comes across the table and I line it up for a back hand push/chop. I hit the ball and it paddle just breaks at the hilt.
I think all the rough paddle-fives from one guy at work systematically weakened the wood.

Oh that's sad news. How did this happen? Apparently it wasn't being properly sheathed.
