Our Weekend in Pix

So for father's day, husband's dream was to go here. I now feel fully justified in owning an SUV, because the road to get here definitely required 4wd and a steel plate protected oil pan. I was a bit nervous bringing the babies so deep into the wilderness unarmed, but it was a beautiful day and there was lots of people traffic to scare off the mountain lions.

Elsa did great, and it was wonderful to get into the woods. I actually feel like we can do the camping thing with two babies...

Heidi skipped her nap but still cuddled a little.

I'm disappointed that I didn't get a picture of Heidi in the backpack, as she road on Daddy's back while he fished. Fly-fished, I should mention. And caught one. Which Heidi loves to narrate for anyone who will listen.

Shortly before leaving we allowed Heidi to venture into the river. Are we crazy? She did go down but we caught her. And she loved every minute of it.
And Elsa slept and slept.

Una also made sure Heidi was safe while river-wading.

After Heidi got soaked we changed her into one of Daddy's shirts.

And, travelling back to Thursday night, my 2nd cousin Jimmy was visiting all the way from IL with my Aunt Mary. We promptly took him to Hinkel, where I played one hole of putt before Elsa summoned me back home.
I hope he had fun! Oliver assures me they did.
And here is a more recent garden picture. More to follow on that. The vines you see crawling were some of my seedlings that I showed in March or something.

More of my precious sister daughters.
And Lilly came over too.

This makes me laugh

Husband recently informed me that I have trouble listening. I guess I didn't hear them say "cheese!"

What I'm Reading Part III

This one made me cry. Heidi couldn't sit through it, but I could.

So this book is described by the School Library Journal as "ultimately unsuccessful" with "characters and illustrations as stiff as the text," whose actions "bear no logic and reason," and a number of other unappetizing descriptions.

But for me it was "you had me at hello." There just aren't many books I've seen with a piano-playing protagonist, or depictions of a quiet, humble musician's life for children. The combo of mother-daughter dynamics, schoolyard politics, winter scenes, and small-town eccentricities gets me every time.

Creative Genius

She was happier to eat the paint.

1 Month: Chubby Bunny

I have to say that I'm very proud of Elsa's size and weight gain. At her 2 week appointment she was 8.12 (that is almost 9 lbs) and the way her clothes are fitting on her it looks like she is now pushing 10. At least. I know these aren't the best pictures, but please note the first smiles caught on camera. She smiles a lot more in real life too.
