Note: Does Not Respond Well to Hokey Pokey

Or maybe it was just that she didn't get a long enough nap.

New Mexico State Fair

Trying out a John Deere.
Yummy popsicle.
Petting the goats--there's a handwashing station right outside.
After a year of making goat noises while looking at a book, I think she really connected with the real thing.

oh, and if anyone has been losing sleep wondering what became of the Gin Blossoms, no worries, they are now on the Western Fair Circuit. (see below)

Tagged, People!

Thanks to Kendall Bethy for this one. Six Quirks of me:

1. Maybe this isn't a quirk, but I'm extremely proud of the fact that Heidi only had one (very, very small) diaper rash during her entire infancy. I worked very hard for this and maybe changed more diapers than I should have. But it was all worth it.

2. Husband tells me that when I'm writing an email or blogging I make crazy faces at the computer that often include head gestures like nodding or shaking. I am trying to curb this, but I was really never aware of it until now.

3. I am addicted to Joe's Os and get anxious when we get low.

4. It looks like I'm going to be one of those mothers with the 4 year old kid who still nurses. Say it ain't so, but getting my child to drink cow's milk is proving near impossible.

5. Sometimes I sing really loudly and then remember how close our neighbors live to us.

6. I spend a lot of time at Michael's and Hobby Lobby these days but rarely have anything to show for it.

Cute & Meaningful

As compellingly as Barack can talk it (a friend of my husband says he expects him to start flying over the crowds one of these days), I could never get behind infanticide. From the little I know about his voting history, he has stood behind every form of abortion, no matter how late or violent. Not that lateness or nonviolence change infanticide.

As controversial/weird/and totally out of the blue as Palin's appearance on the ticket is, I have to admit I get chills when I hear that she is flying in the face of modern "medicine" and having her babies with or without downs syndrome. Any mother who has had a baby in the last ten years has probably heard a nurse/Dr./midwife advise the little test they give to screen for "defects" and pre-decide whether their baby is worth having. Even her daughter's pregnancy situation reveals a woman who chooses life over convenience. Is she the first politician with a pregnant teenage daughter? Maybe one of the first brave enough to allow the unborn to live, no matter what the cost. That is change.

In the picture (cc'd from Femina), I'm not sure what she's signing, but I'm pretty sure that's a baby pouching along. I have a feeling she's not leaving her kids for anything.
